Business Development Specialist – Litigation – Restructuring & Bankruptcy is required to support practice group leaders, partners, attorneys, and internal business services teams in developing and executing business development initiatives for an ambitious mid-sized U.S. law firm with a boutique culture. The role will primarily support the firm’s Litigation practice, while also providing business development support across Restructuring and Bankruptcy matters. This is a highly visible opportunity covering client development, pitches and proposals, market and client research, attorney business development, and the use of GenAI and data-driven research tools to identify new opportunities.

Hybrid – New York City | $85,000–$115,000 + Benefits + Bonus

The ideal candidate will bring solid legal business development experience, supporting Litigation, together with some knowledge of Restructuring, Bankruptcy, Insolvency, or related distressed situations. You should be comfortable working with partners and attorneys, managing multiple BD projects, and using technology, research, and market intelligence to support client targeting and new business activity.

Key skills required for the Business Development Specialist

  • Approximately 3–5 years of marketing or business development experience, within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience supporting a Litigation practice is strongly preferred.
  • Some exposure to Restructuring, Bankruptcy, Insolvency, Creditors’ Rights, Distressed Situations, or related practices would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience supporting RFPs, pitches, proposals, client targeting, and new business opportunities.
  • Familiarity with GenAI, AI-enabled research tools, litigation tracking platforms, CRM systems, and market intelligence tools used within legal business development.
  • A genuine interest in using AI, data, and research to improve client targeting, identify opportunities, and strengthen pitches.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, client-focused proposals, presentations, submissions, and marketing materials.
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to analyze clients, prospects, competitors, industries, litigation activity, restructuring developments, and wider market trends.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to work directly with partners, attorneys, and business services colleagues.
  • Commercially minded, proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative.
  • Experience working with CRM and experience-management systems and maintaining accurate client, prospect, relationship, and matter information.
  • Exposure to Chambers, Legal 500, and other legal directory or award submissions would be beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent undergraduate qualification.

What you’ll do as a Business Development Specialist

  • Support business development initiatives across the firm’s Litigation practice, alongside selected Restructuring and Bankruptcy matters and opportunities.
  • Use GenAI, litigation tracking tools, restructuring intelligence, market data, and research platforms to identify potential clients, matters, and business development opportunities.
  • Assist with the development and execution of practice group and individual attorney business development plans.
  • Research prospective clients, industries, competitors, litigation trends, bankruptcy filings, distressed situations, and other market developments relevant to the practices.
  • Prepare and coordinate RFP responses, pitches, proposals, credentials, and presentations.
  • Help translate research and market intelligence into practical client and prospect targeting strategies.
  • Support attorneys with client development activity, prospect research, meeting preparation, and follow-up.
  • Develop and maintain pitch materials, practice credentials, representative experience, attorney biographies, and other business development collateral.
  • Maintain accurate client, prospect, relationship, experience, and opportunity information within the firm’s CRM and related systems.
  • Track pitches, proposals, referrals, and business development activity and assist with reporting on outcomes.
  • Work closely with attorneys and colleagues across marketing, communications, events, and other business services teams to coordinate initiatives.
  • Support thought leadership, client alerts, webinars, conferences, and events relevant to Litigation, Restructuring, Bankruptcy, and related market developments.
  • Assist with submissions for Chambers, Legal 500, industry awards, and other professional recognitions.
  • Support the integration of lateral attorneys by assisting with business development plans, client and prospect research, experience gathering, and introductions across complementary practices.
  • Help identify potential cross-selling opportunities between Litigation, Restructuring, Bankruptcy, and other areas of the firm.
