Business Development, Senior Specialist with a Litigation focus is required to partner with practice group leaders, partners, special counsel, and internal business services teams to develop and execute strategic business development initiatives for an ambitious mid-sized leading US law firm with a boutique heart. The role will primarily support the firm’s Litigation practice, with exposure to areas including Labour & Employment, Patent, Trademark, and broader Intellectual Property litigation matters. This is a highly visible role focused on client development, new business opportunities, attorney growth, pitches, proposals, market research, and the effective use of GenAI and data-driven research tools to identify and advance business development opportunities.

Hybrid role in NYC Range $115-135k + Bens + Bonus

The ideal candidate will bring strong business development experience supporting a Litigation practice, alongside a good understanding of how GenAI, litigation tracking platforms, CRM systems, and market intelligence tools can be used to improve targeting, research, pitches, and client development. Additional exposure to areas such as Intellectual Property, Patent, Trademark, or Labor & Employment is highly desirable.

Key skills required for the Senior Specialist

  • Minimum of circa 5 years’ marketing or business development experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong experience supporting a Litigation practice is required.
  • Experience using GenAI, AI-enabled research tools, litigation tracking platforms, CRM systems, and other business development technologies to identify opportunities, improve research, and support client targeting.
  • A genuine interest in using AI and data intelligently within business development, with the ability to turn insights into practical actions and opportunities.
  • Experience within related areas such as Intellectual Property, Patent, Trademark, Labor & Employment, or other specialist litigation practices would be advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent undergraduate qualification.
  • Proven experience developing and executing business development plans for practice groups and individual attorneys.
  • Strong experience managing RFPs, pitches, proposals, client targeting, and new business pursuits.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to develop persuasive, client-focused proposals, presentations, award submissions, and marketing materials.
  • Strong research capabilities, including analyzing markets, competitors, industry developments, prospective clients, and emerging opportunities.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the confidence to work closely with partners, senior attorneys, and stakeholders across the firm.
  • Commercially minded, proactive, detail-oriented, and highly collaborative.
  • Experience preparing submissions for Chambers, Legal 500, and other major legal directories and awards would be beneficial.
  • A strong client-service mindset and the ability to support attorneys in building and developing their practices.

What you’ll do as a Senior Specialist

  • Use GenAI, litigation tracking platforms, market intelligence, and research tools to identify, assess, and prioritize potential business development opportunities.
  • Help design, execute, monitor, and recalibrate business development plans and budgets for Litigation practice groups and individual attorneys.
  • Develop actionable strategies to generate new business, deepen client relationships, and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Monitor client needs, market developments, industry trends, and competitor activity to identify potential areas for growth.
  • Lead RFP responses and develop compelling, data-driven pitches and proposals that align client opportunities with relevant attorney experience and firm capabilities.
  • Apply AI-enabled research and data insights to strengthen client targeting, opportunity analysis, and pitch preparation.
  • Oversee and contribute directly to pitch decks, conference materials, presentations, and other business development collateral.
  • Develop client and prospect targeting strategies and coordinate attorney outreach.
  • Maintain accurate client, prospect, relationship, experience, and opportunity information within the firm’s CRM and related systems.
  • Manage deadlines and deliverables across business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Track and report on the outcomes of pitches, proposals, referrals, and other business development activity.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, marketing colleagues, communications teams, and other business professionals to ensure initiatives progress efficiently.
  • Support and coach attorneys at different levels of seniority on business development best practices.
  • Coordinate with marketing and communications teams on thought leadership, client events, webinars, and practice-specific content.
  • Develop strategic submissions for Chambers, Legal 500, industry awards, and other professional recognitions.
  • Support the integration of lateral attorneys, including developing initial business development plans, transitioning client relationships, identifying prospective clients, and connecting attorneys across complementary practices.
