Platform / DevOps Engineer – Linux / AWS / Kubernetes with a good mix of Linux, AWS (or GCP), Kubernetes / Containers, Infrastructure as code – Terraform ideally, or Ansible and scripting in at least one language (Python, Golang, Javascript, Ruby) combined with experience of CI/CD – gitlab, github actions is required by fast growing green tech / renewable energy trading tech scale up in Cambridge who’s distributed platform which handles real-time streaming data / event driven microservice architecture is built with a range of technologies including Java, Python, Kafka and Kubernetes, and a range of AWS cloud services.

This role is will offer hybrid working from the Cambridge office ideally coming in 1 or 2 days per month, or potentially remote working.

Key skills required as a Platform / DevOps Engineer – Linux / AWS / Kubernetes would include some of
 

  • General Linux Skills
  • AWS – VPC, Route53, S3, IAM
  • Infrastructure as code – Terraform ideally, or Ansible
  • Self hosted Kubernetes Kops or similar (e.g. Kubespray)
  • Containers (docker)
  • TCP/IP Networking
  • Scripting in at least one language (Python, Golang, Javascript, Ruby)
  • CI/CD – gitlab, github actions etc
  • Observability / Monitoring – Prometheus, alertmanager, Thanos, Grafana, loki, elasticsearch
  • Infrastructure-as-code, configuration-as-code, packer configs, dockerfiles, container orchestration, CI/CD, metrics collection, USE/RED metric graphs for every system with alerting, pager duty and incident handling runbooks.
  • You’re team-oriented, keen to share your knowledge, and open to giving (and receiving) continuous feedback.
  • You believe in the ethos of 'you build it, you own it’ to see through features from inception to delivery.
  • Experience of Git, Terraform, Kubernetes and any cloud platform (we use AWS) is required.
Other skills you might have as a Platform / DevOps Engineer – Linux / AWS / Kubernetes that would be useful include 

  • Deeper knowledge of Kubernetes internals
  • Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, MongoDB or Postgres is desirable along with a healthy exposure to shell scripting and coding in Golang.
  • Experience with AWS Transit Gateway, CloudFront and API Gateway
  • Experience with service Mesh (Istio)
  • Understand the RED method and the four golden signals for monitoring microservices.
This key role will be working as a member of the Platform Engineering team who’s systems help to make renewable energy generation more viable, and help the drive towards net zero

  • Building Infrastructure tooling and automation.
  • Expanding Monitoring, observability, and instrumentation
  • Administrating Kubernetes, networking, and other infrastructure provisioning
  • Managing cloud service providers (AWS for now, potential move to hybrid)
  • You will use your knowledge of the latest DevOps tools and practices to support the common needs within product delivery squads and enable self-service and automation.
